Honoring five decades of visual arts education, technical innovation, and creative mentorship at Takoradi Technical University.
The Department
The Graphic Design Technology was carved out of the former Fine Art Department in 2008. It is one of six departments in the Faculty of Applied Arts and Technology. It runs HND Commercial Art (Graphic Design), B.Tech in Graphics, and M.Tech in Graphic Design. Its mission is to provide competency-based training in visual communication to produce graduates for industry and entrepreneurship.
The department studio is for practical, manual work — drawing, illustration, painting, photography, screen printing, and packaging mock-ups. It provides large working tables, light, and space for creativity. Lack of spacious, well-equipped studios has been identified as a key factor affecting performance, so the studio is critical for hands-on skills.
The library supports teaching and learning with books, journals, past project works, and e-resources on Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Printing Technology and Applied Arts. It provides a quiet study space and internet access for research for both HND and B.Tech students.
The lecture rooms are where theory meets practice. Courses like Graphic Design History, Advertising Concepts, Entrepreneurship, and Research Methods are taught here. The rooms are spacious, well-ventilated, and fitted with projectors for visual presentations and critiques.
The computer lab is the heart of modern graphics training. It is equipped with computers running industry-standard software like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), CorelDRAW and multimedia tools. Students use it for typography, logo design, packaging, advertising, photo-editing, and web design practicals. It supports hands-on learning as required by the industry.
